Baseball

It seems like it came from out of nowhere, but suddenly Ryan is interested in baseball. He's been begging us to play with him after dinner and is wanting to play on a team. He is just old enough to start Little League this September for their fall ball program, which is two months long. He said he was willing to earn part of the $35 it costs to play, so I guess we'll sign him up and see how it goes.

We have been hitting and catching with him, though not with a real bat and ball yet. (Hmmm, suppose we should buy those, huh?) I am not sure he's ready (or me either) for it yet, but we shall find out in six weeks' time.

Chon-ji

Doing warm-up crunches.

Ryan has been coming along with his Taekwon Do. He can count to ten in Korean, and he is about halfway through learning the first form called Chon-ji. He gets his left and right mixed up, and his kicking combinations look more like skipping, but he LOVES to kick!

He is now the only one who doesn't have a uniform, and he told me last week he wants one. We've been holding off because we haven't been convinced that he really likes it and wants to stick with it. So we made him a deal: Once he has learned his first form all the way through (doesn't have to be up to promotion standards), we will get him a uniform if he still wants to continue. He will have to have one if he wants to promote anyway, so we'll see what he decides and how hard he works.

The instructor is trying to help him bend as far back as possible!

Kicks

Ryan's favorite part of Taekwon Do is kicking. He is fairly inept at it yet, but he loves it! His class this week focused a lot on kicking, and I thought it was amusing that each time it was Ryan's turn to kick, the instructor lowered the bag for him. I'm not sure if she was afraid of being kicked in the knees or if she was trying to help him out, probably a little of both.

He's the youngest and smallest one in the class and gives quite a bit of entertainment for the parents who are watching. He is working hard though and has learned his first four steps and was given the next four this week, which we will work on along with his kicks especially keeping his arms in position.
