The Talker

Ryan is quite the chatterbox at times. The other day as Daddy and I were trying to have a conversation, he was chattering away at no one in particular. I said to him, "You really like to talk, don't you?" To which he replied, "Yeah, I've got a lot on my mind."

Mommy or Employee?

Today as Ryan was reading his lesson to me, he read the word "employment." I asked him if he knew what it meant, and he pretty much had a good understanding. We had a discussion about what an employee is by talking about how Daddy works for the architect firm and he is their employee, to which Ryan responded, "Yeah, and you're our (Ryan and Abby's) employee!" Ha! No wonder I am taken for granted so much!

Embarassing Moments

Do your kids ever say things that make you want to crawl into a hole? Last Sunday we were visiting a church (yes, we're STILL looking for a church home), and when we visit we usually keep the kids with us in service which they don't really like. We were talking with the pastor after the service, and as we were getting ready to leave, the pastor said to Ryan, "Thanks for coming. Come back and see us sometime." As Ryan was hurriedly pushing the door open to leave, he looked at the pastor and ever so politely said, "No thanks," and walked out the door. Everyone in the foyer laughed, but I was so embarrassed!

Funny Word List

As Ryan was reading to me today he came to the word "peculiar." Usually when he comes to an unfamiliar word he will stumble over it a couple of times trying to figure it out, but as he came to this word he just matter of factly said puke-u-ler and just kept right on reading!

When I was a kid my family would make fun of me because I pronounced certain words in a funny way while reading them and it seemed as if they never forgot (in fact, I'd be willing to bet they could still come up with that list)! I think peculiar just became Ryan's first official word on his very own list. I was never deeply bothered by the teasing I got from it, though it did get monotonous at times. When I couldn't help laughing at his pronunciation today, he just laughed along with me. Hopefully, he will keep his ability to laugh at himself!

Tastes in Food

I fixed Prime Rib on New Year's Eve. Ryan LOVES it, but as I was dishing his up he said, "Mom, could you take off the pine needles for me. I don't like pine needles." LOL...I had rubbed it with rosemary.

Ryan's tastes in food continue to baffle me. He likes some things most kids wouldn't touch: Salmon, steak, green olives, shredded wheat, prime rib, clam strips, feta cheese, halibut, mustard, trout, swiss cheese.

Then he doesn't like things most kids beg for: Fruit Loops, caramel, American Cheese, Lucky Charms (actually, he doesn't like any "kid" cereal), butterscotch, ketchup, Pop Tarts, marshmallows, mashed potatoes, watermelon.

Rescuing Abby

Ryan was drawing pictures today, and he made this one for me. I asked him about the picture, and he pointed out everyone and said he was the green person, Daddy was the blue person, Mommy was the pink person, and Abby is the brown one up in the tree. When I asked why she was up in the tree, he said that she kept jumping around and she jumped really high and got stuck up there so we had to call someone to get her down. It was all I could do to keep from laughing. It seems he's figured out how his little sister operates!
