Cutting the Tree

We usually get our Christmas tree the weekend after Thanksgiving, but Daddy was very sick that weekend. The next weekend Mommy got what Daddy had the week before. So this weekend we were blessed with no rain, no sickness, and a beautiful day for a family outing. We like to cut our own tree, so we headed up the road to a U-Cut farm up in the hills a few miles away. It was a nice drive, and once we got there, the kids had a blast running up and down the hills and hiding behind the trees.

It was Friday and we were the only customers on the farm, so we took our time and walked all the hills trying to find the perfect tree. At last we decided and Daddy cut it down. Daddy has always wanted a great big tree, but until this year we haven't had a ceiling tall enough or a living room big enough. This year he got to pick a large Noble Fir...almost nine feet tall! It is huge and really gorgeous. It makes our house smell so wonderful!

Oh, and for my family in California who are probably thinking we spent a small fortune on the tree...it was $20!

Have I mentioned how much we love Oregon?

Merry Christmas from The Garners!

$20!?!?!?!?!? For a 9 ft tree?!?!?!

WOW! Back when we were buying real trees (we broke down and bought a prelit artificial 2 years ago), a 7-8 ft tree cost us $60-70!!!!

It's beautiful!!!!! Do you have enough to decorate such a big tree?? Be sure to post pics of the kids decorating and the final result!

Yeah, $20 is cheap even for Oregon. The tree farm also gave us hot cider and cookies, and the kids each got to pick a small toy...what a bargain!

I have been tempted to buy a prelit tree too because it seems so much easier! But our house smells so wonderful and the tree is so gorgeous, I'm glad we got a real tree.

The only reason it cost that much was because it was a Noble. You can get a fir for about ten dollars.

The smell of the real tree doesn't bother Ed with a headache???

You know, I'm not sure. It typically hasn't bothered him in the past, but he has had a bad year with headaches and he had a headache all weekend (though it started before we got the tree). And, sadly, the smell of the tree has faded quite a bit.
